FUNERAL QUESTIONS

Legacy’s Low Cost Funeral Experience

EXAMPLES OF FUNERALS WE HAVE ARRANGED – GIVING A SENSE OF THE SERVICE WE RESPECTFULLY PROVIDE

As an experienced Funeral Director, I would have observed how people suffering the shock of bereavement will always approach a call to a Funeral Director with some level of trepidation and they will almost always have questions.

A person I love has just passed away.

What are we supposed to do next?

Someone told me about Legacy Online Funerals, but how does that work? I need someone I can trust.   In the traditional Undertakers, I would have sensed great nervousness in people, and part of our job as Funeral Directors was, and remains, an ability to convey calm reassurance during turbulent times.  Below are some recent examples of funerals we have arranged for people, which we hope will give you a sense of the service we provide.

Janis was a widower from Latvia,  living in Terenure on the southside of Dublin with his daughter Anna.  Latvian born Anna lived in Terenure, worked in Tallaght and had brought her Dad to live in Ireland in 2015 so she could nurse him during his relatively short illness.  Anna got in touch with Dublin based Legacy Funerals after her Dad had passed away peacefully at home.  She needed Legacy Funerals to organise the most simple funeral possible.  We’re taking my Dad, Janis, back to Latvia in three weeks time.  There will be a funeral service over in Riga, church, prayers, reposal, eulogy, and funeral music. Anna explained that she needed to have a cremation type simple funeral here. The cost of having her father’s body transported to Latvia (Repatriation) was quite expensive and beyond her budget so she chose instead to let Legacy online Funerals arrange a simple service here in Dublin including a cremation.  Legacy Funerals were able to keep the costs low for Anna. Janis had a fine simple funeral – one of our trusted  hearse drivers Paul drove Janis directly to the Crematorium in Mount Jerome in Harold’s Cross, not far from Terenure.  At Mount Jerome, there was a gathering of friends and relatives and a small ceremony at the crematorium including music, prayers, and a poem.

Two young sisters, Laura and May contacted Legacy Funerals. Their elderly aunt Esther died in Rathmines. A simple funeral was what they needed – Esther was 96 and many of her old friends already passed away. Laura and May are both students, and upset because budgets were tight so cost was important but they wanted a ‘proper’ dignified funeral. Legacy online Funerals proved ideal. No Reposal was required at all – Esther’s wishes were for a closed coffin. The funeral procession was shaped by Esther’s coffin taken in a Black Mercedes Hearse directly to the church, then onto the Crematorium in Mount Jerome. Legacy Funeral Director Sheila was able to get in touch with Esther’s old Parish Church, St Kevin’s in Harrington Street, as the family had a preference for her old neighbourhood. This is an example of long-standing Dubliners utilising Legacy’s low cost options to create a beautiful funeral ceremony for their beloved elderly aunt.

Martin’s widowed father Frank had moved from Dublin 15 to County Limerick in retirement.  Frank passed away peacefully, and Martin, who lives in Blanchardstown, initially planned to phone a Limerick Funeral Director. Frank’s wishes were for a very simple funeral (with no religious element) followed by Cremation and to have the ashes interred in his late wife Rita’s grave in Mulhuddart Cemetery.  Martin was unsure about how to get Frank back to Dublin, but someone told Martin about Legacy low cost Funerals and how the online process opened up options for people all over Ireland. Martin phoned us at Legacy Funerals, and left a message. After a long chat with the Legacy Funeral Director, Martin was delighted to know that Legacy Funerals would travel to Limerick and transfer Frank to Dublin. Because there was no Funeral Mass, Legacy Funerals were able to organize a double slot in Glasnevin Crematorium so that the gathering could expand to have more music, poetry and eulogy time.

As a professional Dublin Funeral Director  coming to Legacy Funerals, my funeral arrangements experience has involved working with bereaved families in the traditional sense of how they like to arrange funerals.

I’ve been struck by both the interest families have in the new Legacy Online Funeral approach and also the nervousness people feel around this new innovative service designed to save money for clients.  The funeral stories we have outlined above will hopefully bring clarity to bear.
